Tanning lamps are sensitive to the ambient temperature around the lamps. This is the air around the glass of the lamp itself (2cm away from the glass, 10-20 cm away from the end of the lamp). Temperatures above 70F / 21C are strongly preferred for the sake of output. There are many ways to achieve this without heating up the entire building.

Many people will enclose the UV chamber where curing is taking place in order to heat it up and for eye safety. If the rig is in a warehouse in New England, then winters will be too cold to reliably cure without taking a few steps to get the temperature up a bit. Enclosing and heating is often as simple as using cloth or even cheap paneling to close off the area, and a small ceramic heater to raise the temperature.

You *can* cure finishes in cold areas but it will simply take much longer exposures than in a warm area. For some applications, this is fine, but where the concern of dust settling on a finished product is a real possibility, it is worth the time and effort to close and heat the small space you will be curing in.
